“At times moving, mesmeric and delicate, the beginning was soft, gradually expanding to include women, then men. Macens’ work is influenced by her Latvian background and the text she wrote for this piece reflected some of that country’s history. Her outlook on the world, acknowledging vulnerability and struggle, pleading for compassion and grace ended with an overall optimistic encouragement for humankind. Clearly articulating the text, the Choir and its conductor gave this profoundly-felt music an insightful performance. An important addition to the repertoire.” (Music Trust).
